In this research project, I have developed an interactive locative storytelling experience to gather insights about the potential of addressing societal topics. Using location-based storytelling and augmented reality, the goal is to see if this medium can stimulate empathy and encourage discourse.
What if people could step in the shoes of a woman walking alone at night?
In this experiment the topic of discussion is the women experience walking alone at night. This subject arose when a friend said the following:
“If there are suddenly no more men, the first thing I would do is to walk alone at night”
When inquiring about this statement, it seemed that a lot of women have internalized and normalized a feeling of anxiety when they are alone at night. What if people could step in the shoes of a woman walking alone at night? What would go through her head? Would this perspective stimulate empathy towards people that have similar experiences?
